Today Sunday 11/3/19, Mohegan FD participated in the Town of Yorktown townwide Emergency Response drill, which included all of the emergency services of the town. This drill was set up and ran by the Yorktown Police Department. This year’s drill focused around Active Shooter, Rescue Task Force, and Mass Casulty Incident (MCI). The first hour of the drill was held at Yorktown FD and consisted of a classroom lecture on Active Shooter incidents, and how to set up a Rescue Task Force. The 2nd portion of the drill was located at the Yorktown Dialysis Center off Strang Blvd. Here agencies set up a Unified Command Post of all the agencies involved, including Car 2261. All the other Mohegan FD members staged under Car 2264 and 2269. Once called upon, Mohegan Firefighters then “responded” and entered the “warm zone” with protection of the police officers and assisted in triaging the wounded, and assisted in removing the victims from the location to awaiting Emergency Medical Service crews. This drill was a first of a kind and was kept basic to allow the agencies to start to learn and further expand working with each other in this potential type of incident.
