On Fri. January 2, 2009 at 11:12pm, Mohegan units were dispatched to 1520 Jacob Rd in Yorktown for a reported kitchen fire. Car 2263 arrived first and confirmed a working fire. With this, the first alarm assignment was activated bringing Mohegan VAC, Yorktown FD's FAS-Team, Buchanan FD's Cascade, and Battalion 17 to the scene. Mohegan firefighters under the command of Car 2261 quickly stretched 2 hoselines from Engine 255 while Engine 258 laid a supply 5" hoseline from a closeby hydrant. Ladder 35 stoodby in front of the residence in case needed. Members found a moderate smoke condition inside the residence with smoke eminating from the wall around the wall oven. Members shut the power to the unit and began to open up the wall. Fire was found inside the wall to be burning the insulation and sheetrock. Members knocked down the fire with minimal water from the hoseline. The second hoseline stretched was a backup hoseline that was not used inside. Members also checked the opposite side of the wall, ceiling above, and floor above for any possible extension, though none was found. Members also overhauled the burnt out oven and removed it from the house. While this was being done, other firefighters began ventilating the smoke from the house. Salvage also was in the process by members to clean up the debris from the wall and preventing any further water damage. Mohegan VAC 69B3 and Buchanan FD Untility 12 were returned to service prior to arriving on scene while Yorktown FD Engine 270/FAS-Team were placed in service shortly after arrriving and setting up on scene. All Mohegan units picked up all the equipment and hose and returned to quarters by 12:30am.
