On Wednesday 7/17/24 at approximately 4:30pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to Sunfish Landing in the Villas on the Lake Townhomes for a reported residence struck by lightning. The area was experiencing sever thunderstorms during this time. Upon arrival, Mohegan FD did confirm a lightning strike to a nearby tree that traveled into the townhouse unit. A smoke condition was found with charring within the attic area and walls. One 1 3/4” hoseline was stretched, while firefighters operated inside and on the roof. The unit was overhauled to ensure no further fire spread. During this call, Mohegan FD operated at a hazardous materials incident and were just returning from a mutual aid assist to Mahopac Falls FD for a structural fire.
