On Monday 1/16/23 at approximately 2:30pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to the Furnace Woods Elementary School on Watch Hill Rd in Cortlandt for a reported fire on the roof. Upon arrival, units found fire visible from the roof in the area of a hvac unit. The 10-75 (Working Fire assignment) was transmitted being in additional resources to the scene. Ladder 10 arrived and set up the aerial ladder and firefighters also set up ground ladders. Once the roof was accessed, the fire was quickly extinguished using a dry chemical ABC extinguisher. Firefighters checked the interior of the school for smoke or possible extension and none was found. Firefighters mitigated electric and the HVAC unit was de-energized. Assisting on scene were Buchanan FD, Croton FD (FAS-Team), Mohegan EMS, Peekskill EMS (Rehab), and Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services Battalion 10. Peekskill FD and Somers FD relocated and covered Mohegan FD. Our mutual aid units were quickly released upon arrival. All units cleared the scene by 4pm.
