On Saturday morning 6/26/21 at approximately 9:30am, Mohegan FD (career staff), Mohegan EMS, and Cortlandt Regional Paramedics were dispatched to the Sentinel of Mohegan Lake on Lexington Ave for a medical emergency. First arriving career firefighters (who respond to EMS calls as part of our district’s first response program) immediately had an activation on the personal carbon monoxide meter carried on the radio strap, smelled gas powered exaust fumes upon entry and determined that the medical emergency was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. These firefighters quickly had the incident re-dispatched as a carbon monoxide incident and potential MCI situation. Additional firefighters (volunteer and career) arrived and began a mass evacuation of the residence and began a triage for potential patients. Additional EMS resources were requested for this MCI with EMS mutual aid ambulances from Peekskill EMS, Putnam Valley EMS, Mahopac Falls FD EMS, and additional Cortlandt Regional Paramedics were requested to the scene under Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services unit EMS 12. Mohegan Firefighters assisted in the evacuation and began to search the building for possible victims and also began to set up exhaust fans for ventilation. Mutual aid from Peekskill FD and Yorktown FD were requested to the scene to assist. Buchanan FD and Ossining FD buses were also requested to the scene to assist EMS in triage and temporary shelter of the residents of this assisted living facility. The ventilation process took a few hours and all units began to clear the scene by 1pm. Also assisting on scene was the Town of Cortlandt Code Enforcement. Putnam Valley FD and Somers FD relocated to Mohegan FD Headquarters and covered Mohegan FD during this incident. All units cleared the scene by 1pm.
