| **Candy Cane Drive Up Event** We would like to remind everyone that on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 11am-3pm, there will be a Winter Wonderland Car Parade at the Jefferson Valley Mall located at 650 Lee Blvd in Yorktown and the children will be able to see Santa himself at the end from the comfort of being inside of the vehicles. All children will get a candy cane as the cars drive through the parking lot. Holiday car decorations are encouraged by all! Due to this occurring during normal operating mall hours, the mall has asked any residents who are coming to this event please register (NO COST) so there is an approximate count on the number of vehicles. We know that Santa usually drives around the streets with us to deliver candy canes to your house, but this year we need to make sure Santa and our volunteers stay healthy and safe! This event will allow for our members to socially distance safely outside.
With that being said, we are EXTREMELY disheartened with the amount of criticism and negativity that we have received by not performing our normal Candy Cane Runs. The health of our own volunteer members and the especially the public is paramount to us. By having our members confined in the closed cabs of our apparatus for long periods of time does not allow our members to safely social distance and can adversely affect our responses to emergencies in the future should our members health become jeopardized. The Candy Cane Runs although extremely fun and important to us are unfortunately a non-emergency event that we had to alter. We looked at all the variables around our Candy Cane Runs and we opted to have 2 drive up events rather than cancel altogether. If anyone missed us this past Sunday at the Cortlandt Community Center you can see us at this event! We thank you for your continued support you give us here at the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association and we thank you for helping make this holiday a little more jolly!
For health concerns please note:
-All passengers must remain in vehicles at all times
-No in person photographs with Santa
-No children are to approach Santa
-All involved MUST wear masks and remain socially distanced
