Today Wednesday 8/19/20, Mohegan FD officially donated our decommissioned 2008 Ford Explorer to the Schroon Lake Fire Dept in Essex County, NY. This vehicle was originally designated as Utility 18 for our fire district as an EMS First Response vehicle, and then was re-designated as Car 2268 (Career Capt’s vehicle) from 2011 until 2019. The vehicle was going to be decommissioned in early 2020 with the arrival of the new Car 2263 in late 2019. With intentions of the donation in the works after a request was received from SLFD in early 2020, the Covid-19 crisis struck, which delayed the process. This vehicle will become Schroon Lake FD’s first ever Chief/Command vehicle. Pictured (left to right) at Schroon Lake FD are LMFD Commissioner Chris Gravius, SLFD Ex Chief Paul McCann Sr, LMFD Commissioner Joe Stewart, SLFD Chief Paul McCann Jr, LMFD 1st Asst Chief Chris Gravius, and SLFD Commissioner Tim Vander Wiele. When Schroon Lake FD asked for a donation of such a vehicle, our Lake Mohegan Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners quickly approved such a request since we have a connecting bond to the Schroon Lake FD. SLFD Ex Chief Paul McCann Sr is a Life Member of the Mohegan FD and assisted on many committees and projects through the years. His son Chief Paul McCann Jr grew up around Mohegan FD as a child before the family moved north 16 years ago. We wish them the best with this vehicle as it has become a historical moment for their department! Within 3 hours of delivery this vehicle has already made its first response with SLFD to the scene of a confirmed structure fire and was the command vehicle of the incident!
