On Saturday 6/6/20 at approximately 2:55pm, Mohegan FD (volunteer and career) was dispatched to the area of Hill Blvd and Jefferson Village for reported smoke coming from a structure. While units were enroute, the location was updated to a 12 unit Condo unit located on Essex Pl. Upon arrival, heavy smoke was found visible from one of the 2nd floor units. With a nearby high school graduation parade, Yorktown PD and Westchester County PD were on scene first and evacuated all the units and ensured all residents were out and accounted for. Their efforts to assist in this were tremendous to our on scene operations. Car 2266 transmitted the 10-75 (working structure fire) bringing our 1st alarm assignment to the scene. Due to the size of the building, Mahopac FD was requested to the scene above the 1st alarm with their tower ladder as a 2nd ladder truck. Units on scene under the 1st alarm assignment included Putnam Valley FD's FAS-Team (Rescue 24-6-1), Mahopac Falls FD (Rescue 19-6-1-Cascade), Mohegan EMS, Peekskill EMS (7506-Rehab Unit), Yorktown PD, Westchester County PD, and resources from Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services (Battalion 10, Cause and Origin Team Zone 4), and Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services. One 1 3/4" hose line was stretched from Engine 252 and an additional 1 3/4" hoseline was stretched from Engine 255. Ladder 35 was set up in the rear for roof ventilation and Mahopac FD Tower Ladder 18-5-1 was also set up in the rear to assist with roof operations. Numerous ground ladders were also set up. The fire was found in the common cockloft area extending above an additional 2nd floor unit. The fire was quickly extinguished and extensive overhaul was performed. During this fire, a water main break occurred close by causing a slight disruption with water supply, however the fire was under control at that time. Buchanan FD and Yorktown FD relocated and covered at our Fire Headquarters. Mohegan FD units on scene were Car 2261, 2263, 226-40, 2264, 2265, 2266, 2267, 2269, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 255, Ladder 35, and Rescue 32. Photos are courtesy of FF Gus Stretz unless noted. All units cleared the scene by 6pm.
