Chimney Fire with Extension During Nor'Easter

On Wednesday night 10/16/19 in the middle of a torrential rainstorm from a Nor'Easter, at approximately 8:35pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Westbrook Dr in Cortlandt. Within 2 minutes, Engine 256 arrived on scene and advised of smoke showing with fire visible from the top of the chimney. One 1 3/4" hoseline was quickly stretched and it was determined that the fire did extend into the cockloft area above. the fire was quickly knocked down and members began to attack the fire within the chimney. Engine 252 did lay a 5" supply hose line frm a hydrant to feed additional water to Engine 256. Members remained on scene until approximately 10:45pm. Also assisting on scene were Mohegan EMS 6905 plus 69B3, Peekskill EMS 7506/Rehab, and Cortlandt Code Enforcement. Mohegan Fire units operating were Car 2261, 2264, 2265, 2269, Engine 252, Engine 256, Ladder 35, and Rescue 32. During this night, members responded to numerous other fire/rescue calls including 2 CO detector activations, and 1 electrical emergency on Montrose Station Rd, in which members had to utilize numerous Carbon Dioxide extinguishers to prevent 2 residences from becoming engulfed in flames while waiting for Con Edison Electric to arrive.
