At approximately 4:45pm this evening Thursday 10/10/19, Mohegan FD (volunteer and career) was dispatched to Nutley Circle in Yorktown for a reported garage fire. Within a few minutes, first due Ladder 10 confirmed an active garage fire attached to the residence and the 10-75 (working structure fire) was transmitted with the 1st alarm units added to the assignment. Heavy fire was found in the garage area and already extending into the 2nd floor. Three 1 3/4” hoselines were quickly stretched to attack the fire with one hose to the garage, one hose to the 2nd floor, and the third to the side of the house to extinguish the burning pine tree. While first arriving members were stretching the first hoseline, the homeowner who originally was found outside, re-entered the residence. Members then quickly found the homeowner collapsed and slumped over the kitchen table in the kitchen/dining room area on the first floor in a heavy smoke condition. This homeowner was then assisted out of the residence and turned over to 2 Croton FD members, who were in the area and assisted on scene with patient care until the arrival of Mohegan EMS/Empress EMS. This patient was quickly transported by Mohegan EMS 69B3 to the burn center at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. During the primary searches, the crew also located the interior garage door open and immediately shut it to prevent further fire spread. Engine 252 laid a 5” supply hoseline from the closest fire hydrant on Manchester Rd. The fire was quickly knocked down, but extensive overhaul had to be performed. The 1st Alarm assignment brought Croton-on-Hudson FD FAS-Team (Car 2081, 2082, Engine 119), Mahopac Falls FD (Chief 19-1-2, Rescue 19-6-1 for cascade and manpower), Peekskill EMS (7506/Rehab), Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services Battalion 17 plus Cause and Origin Team Zone 4, and Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Battalion 16. Mohegan EMS 69B2 was also on scene standing by. Other units assisting were Yorktown Police Department, Town of Yorktown Building Dept, and Con Edison Electric and Gas. Mahopac FD Engine 18-2-3 relocated and covered at Mohegan FD Station #1. All Mohegan FD units cleared the scene by 7:30pm. Mohegan FD units on scene were 2261, 2262, 226-40, 2267, 2269, Engine 252, Engine 256, Ladder 10, Rescue 32, and Utility 80. Photos are courtesy of Kempter’s Fire Wire and Car 2262.
