On Monday 7/22/19, just before 4pm, a severe thunderstorm struck the area which brought extreme weather conditions. At 3:50pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to Kamhi Dr in Yorktown for a tree limb that fell striking a electric power line causing the power line to fall. Upon arrival, the electrified 4KW electric power line was found actively arcing and burning on the front lawn of the residence, in extreme close proximity of the house itself. Units checked the interior of the house with a thermal imaging camera for any potential issues. No issues were found and members shut the main electric breaker to the residence in case of any electrical surges. Other members set up a perimeter to ensure nobody went near the electric wire. Con Edison Electric was notified and requested to the scene. Mohegan FD stoodby on scene until 6:30pm when Con Edison arrived and shut off the power line. Members checked the resident’s yard alongside Con Edison to ensure none of the grass, tree limb, or bushes needed to be extinguished from the arcing and smoldering electric wire. Units on scene were Car 2262, 2263, 2266, 2269, Engine 252, Engine 255, Rescue 32, and Utility 80.
