Severe Thunderstorms Keep Bravest Busy

On Mon 6/19/17, Mohegan FD had a busy day, mostly due to a few rounds of severe thunderstorms that affected the area throughout the day. The pictures posted are of a lightning strike to a tree in the rear of the Shrub Oak United Methodist Church on East Main St. During the storms, Mohegan FD responded to 7 fire calls, which are listed below:

1) 10:57am: Garbage Truck Fire on Lakeland Ave off Lexington Ave in Mohegan Lake. Units operating were Car 2263, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 256, Utility 80, 69B3, Cortlandt Medic 35M1, Westchester County Police, and NY State Police

2) 11:22am: Commercial Fire Alarm at Wynwood Oaks Apartments on East Main St in Shrub Oak. Units operating were 22610, DC38, Engine 256, Ladder 10, Ladder 35, Utility 11 (acting Rescue 32), and Utility 80

3) 12:26pm: Tree Fire caused by lightning strike at United Methodist Church on East Main St in Shrub Oak (pictures below). One 1 3/4" hoseline was stretched from Engine 253 to extinguish the burning tree. Units operating were Car 2263, 22610, DC38, Engine 253, Utility 11 (acting Rescue 32), Utility 80, and Yorktown Police

4) 1:13pm: Wires Down and Burning (found to be cable tv wire only) on Flanders Dr in Yorktown. Units operating were Car 2263, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 253, Utility 11 (acting Rescue 32, Utility 80, and Yorktown Police

5) 3:10pm: Tree Down: Croton Ave at Rt 202 in Cortlandt. Car 2263 handled with notification to Town of Cortlandt Highway

6) 3:15pm: Tree Down on Croton Ave at Furnace Dock Rd in Cortlandt. Car 2263 handled with notification to Town of Cortlandt Highway

7) 4:12pm: Motor Vehicle Accident w/ Injuries (no injuries found upon arrival) on Rt 132 and Union Rd in Yorktown. Units operating were Car 2261, 2263, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 253, Utility 11 (acting Rescue 32), Yorktown 34M1, and Yorktown Police
