At 12:23pm on Mon 10/10/16, Mohegan Fire units were dispatched to Old Jefferson Valley Rd in the Jefferson Valley section of the district for a reported tree down on wires. Upon arrival, firefighters found a large tree down with primary wires and a subsequent small brush fire. Con Edison Electric was requested and while awaiting Con Edison, the brush fire began to spread, but access could not be gained due to the down live electric lines being wrapped into the down tree. Once Con Edison was on scene, the power was turned off and deemed a safe scene safe by Con Edison, members stretched one 1 3/4" hoseline to extinguish a moderate size brush fire that was spreading in the dry conditions and moderate wind. Members also used conservation rakes to create a fire break. Firefighters used water from both Engine 253 and Engine 258, prior to utilizing a fire hydrant. Once the fire was fully extinguished, the scene was turned over to Con Edison Electric to make repairs. Yorktown Highway Department was also requested to clear the down tree from the road. Mohegan Fire units on scene were 2261, 2264, 2265, 2266, Engine 253, Engine 258, Utility 80, and Rescue 32. Yorktown Police Department also assisted on scene with traffic control. All Mohegan Fire units cleared by 3pm.
