On Tues. 10/4/16, Mohegan FD's FAS-Team Members and Firefighters trained at the old Mohegan Beer and Soda building located on Rt. 6 near the Cortlandt Town Center. FAS-Team members trained on search and rescue of a "down firefighter" by using our firefighter mannequins and our smoke machine creating a realistic environment. This training also included using new Bullard thermal imaging camera, our new large area search ropes, changing the air bottle over to our RIT Pack, extricating the "down firefighter", packaging the "victim", and removing the "down firefighter". FAS-Team members during the various evolutions also had to utilize numerous hand tools and the air chisel off a Scott air bottle to force entry through a concrete wall to locate and extricate the "down firefighter". Members in additional scenarios breached through sheetrock walls and wood paneling, plus even were lowered down from the roof by rope into the the building to search, locate, and remove the "down firefighter" up through the hole. Also attending this training were Mahopac Falls Firefighters who received hands-on training by being allowed to force entry using ventilation saws on the rear roll down metal bulkhead door and also breach a concrete wall inside in a smoky environment while using an airpack. Mahopac Falls Firefighters were also given the opportunity to review our FAS-Team equipment, including our large area search rope bags and RIT Pack. During the drill, we also utilized Mahopac Falls FD Rescue 19-6-1 to refill air bottles on the premise throughout the night. We would like to thank the Mahopac Falls FD for assisting us with our training.
