At 8:54pm on Mon 8/1/16, Mohegan FD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries and vehicle down an embankment and striking a fire hydrant on Lafayette Ave near Rt 202 in Cortlandt. Upon arrival of units, a single vehicle accident was found, with the vehicle striking a fire hydrant causing a substantial water leak with ground erosion and the roadway partially undermined. The vehicle was found resting partially down the embankment. Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps 69B2 transported 1 patient to a nearby hospital, while Mohegan Firefighters stoodby and assisted New York State Police with the road closure. Firefighters also checked the area below the hill for any possible flooding. 1 structure was found to have minor flooding in the basement, and flooding throughout the parking lot and grassy area of the medical office building on Rt 202. Although there was a water condition, fire dept services were not needed for any water removal. Mohegan Fire units remained on scene until the vehicle was removed and assisted Town of Cortlandt Water Dept with scene lighting until the water main in the area was shut down. The scene was eventually turned over to Cortlandt Water Dept and all fire units cleared by 10:30pm. Units operating were Car 2261, 2264, DC40, DC41, Engine 252, Engine 258, and 69B2.
