Falling Tree Causes Damage To House

At 3:45pm on Mon 7/18/16 at the height of a severe thunderstorm, Mohegan Fire and EMS were requested to Buttonwood Rd for a reported tree down on a house with injuries. Upon arrival, a large tree branch was found down on top of the residence with 1 minor injury reported by the tenants. The patient was transported by Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps 69B1 to a local hospital, while Mohegan Fire units ensured all the residents were out of the residence. Structural damage was found to the interior 2nd floor, roof, soffit, ceiling, and exterior. The electrical meter was also pulled from the residence and the electrical wires were found to be down on the property. The power was cut to the residence by Con Edison Electric and the residence was deemed uninhabitable by the Town of Cortlandt Code Enforcement, until repairs can be made. Units responding/on scene were Car 2264, 2265, DC40, Engine 252, Engine 258, Ladder 35, 69B1, and NY State Police. Mohegan Fire units cleared by 5:15pm. Mohegan FD also handled 2 additional calls for a reported transformer explosion on Rt 6 and Westbrook Dr during this incident. Car 2263, 2265, DC40, Engine 252, and Engine 257 handled the other calls.
