On Fri. 9/18/15 at 6:12pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to the rear of 3275 Lexington Ave in the Mohegan Lake section for a reported brush fire. Upon the arrival of Engine 252, a large brush fire was found in the rear woods, over 1,000 ft from the closest hydrant on Lexington Ave. Due to the size of the fire, Engine 255 was requested to the scene to supply Engine 252 additional water, while Engine 252 operated one 1 3/4" hoseline. The area of brush burning was a large pile of brush, trees, and logs approximately 30ft x 30ft and 10 ft tall. With the amount of fire, additional water would be needed to fully extinguish the fire. Due to the distance from a nearby hydrant, Continental Village FD Tanker 11 was requested to the scene instead of utilizing a water relay of supply hose with multiple engines, which would have closed Lexington Ave. prior to CVFD's tanker arriving, Engine 255 fed Engine 252 its 500 gallons of water then went up to Lawrence Rd and set up a fill site, if needed. Continental Village FD Mini Attack 4 was also requested to the scene with additional manpower. Due to this being a deep seated fire, burning under a large amount of brush, once the fire was knocked down, members cut up the trees and logs using a chainsaw. Once this operation was complete, the entire area was doused with a blanket of foam that was mixed into the hoseline. Mohegan EMS 69B1 also stoodby on scene during this fire providing firefighter rehab. All units cleared by 8:15pm. Photos courtesy of FF Gus Stretz.
