On Wed. 12/3/14, Mohegan FD's FAS-Team, Firefighters, and EMS personnel trained at Fire Headquarters on "down firefighter" CPR. This new technique allows firefighters to begin CPR on a "down firefighter" while allowing other firefighters to remove the full turnout gear coat and SCBA, without interrupting the CPR chest compressions on a "down firefighter". Air is also given to this "down firefighter" by opening the purge valve on the Scott airpack, prior to removing the mask from the "down firefighter". After removing the "down firefighter" from the airpack and turnout coat, the "down firefighter" can quickly be transferred over to EMS personnel without any interruptions in proper CPR compressions. Attached is a tutorial to the 10 steps into performing this technique. Mohegan FD FAS-Team members practiced this new technique numerous times this night to become proficient in this new technique. To date, the number 1 reason for firefighter deaths is cardiac arrest due to heart attacks! Below is the link to the youtube tutorial video on this new CP
