On Saturday morning 11/22/14 at 2:21am, Mohegan Fire units were dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Apple Hill Dr in Cortlandt. Upon arrival, units found fire showing from the wood frame chimney chase on the exterior of the residence. Firefighters quickly stretched an 1 3/4" hoseline from Engine 258 and knocked down the fire from the exterior. Under the command of 2265, the 1st alarm was transmitted due to the fire extending into the walls of the first and second floor, plus the attic. A second 1 3/4" hoseline was stretched to the front door precautionary, as members opened up the walls inside and Engine 258 had a secure water source from a close by hydrant. Ladder 35 backed into the driveway and its aerial ladder was rasied to the roof for roof access. Firefighters opened up this wood chimney chase further and utilized the hoseline from the roof to douse hot spots. On the 1st alarm, Peekskill FD Rescue 134/FAS-Team, Buchanan Utility 12/Cascade, Cortlandt VAC Rehab unit, Mohegan EMS 69B3, and Battalion 17 were dispatched to the scene. Members performed overhaul and found no further extension and bagan to pick up from the scene. All mutual aid was released and all units cleared by 4:45am. Putnam Valley FD Engine and Montrose Tower Ladder 8 relocated and stoodby at Mohegan FD Station #1 until units cleared. New York State Police, Con Edison Electric, and Cortlandt Code Enforcement Fire Marshall 26 assisted on scene.
