On Wed. 7/14/10, the Westchester County Dept. of Emergency Services (D.E.S.) HAZMAT Team met with Mohegan Firefighters at the Hollowbrook Station to give an overview of the team and their equipment. Westchester County Special Operations Chief Pete Pitocco (Car 2001) and Mohegan Firefighter/Paramedic JT Flick, who is also a member of the HAZMAT Team, began the evening by explaining responses to Carbon Monoxide calls and gas odors. The team explained the proper uses of the CO meters and gas detectors that Mohegan operates with at various calls. Chief Pitocco also discussed the various types of meters that the HAZMAT Team responds with and what each is used for. The team also explained how the LMFD should operate and what precautions need to be taken at the scene of various types of HAZMAT incidents. Once all this was discussed, members got a tour of the equipment that is carried on the team's state of the art truck, HAZMAT 1. The rig features a camara system to download the scene to the command center in the cab. The rig also has a satellite dish to download various information and updates of the current weather conditions. The rig's cab also has a large library of up to date information of different hazardous materials. Members were taught the purpose of every piece of equipment on the truck and the location of it, so the Mohegan FD can further assist the team at an incident where the HAZMAT Team is needed.
