| On Thurs. 6/24/10 at approx. 1:40pm, the area experienced a severe thunderstorm with very fierce winds. Mohegan units were then requested to respond to Rt. 6 and Lexington Ave on Barmore Hill in Cortlandt for a reported tree down on top of motor vehicles with extrication. Upon arrival, a large tree was found to be on top of two vehicles with 1 minor injury. Although extrication was reported, all the occupants were safely out of the vehicles upon arrival. The tree also snapped a utility pole and brought down the utility wires. Units immediately shut down Rt. 6 from the Cortlandt Town Center to Lexington Ave due to the road being fully blocked. 69B3 secured an RMA from the patient and returned into service. The FD units remained on scene until the New York State DOT and Con Edison Electric arrived. Members assisted on scene until the vehicles were removed. Mohegan Fire-Police also assisted the New York State Police with the road closure. The road, which is a major artery, remained fully closed until approx. 7pm until the road was partially opened, while Con Edison continued to repair the utility pole.
