| Dear Friend and Neighbor: It is 2 a.m. and you smell smoke in your home. You dial 911 and begin alerting your family to leave the house. Within minutes, fire trucks and personal vehicles begin arriving at your home. Men and women get into gear and rush into your home. If there are flames and we don’t know if everyone is out of the house, we completely search the burning structure. If there are flames, we “charge” the hoses and immediately start fighting the fire. Several times each day we respond to calls for structure fires, car accidents, brush fires, smell of smoke and countless other calls to 911. Who are we? We are "The Mohegan Lake Volunteer Fire Association". We are your neighbors. We are the people next to you in line at the store or at the gym. We are accountants, police officers, plumbers, Custodial workers, DPW workers, and nurses but when the alarm rings, we are firefighters. Approximately 80 of us live throughout the community and regardless of when the alarm sounds, we drop what we are doing to help you in your time of need -24 hours/7 days a week and 365 days a year. We work alongside with paid career firefighters and Mohegan EMS. Last year (2025) our volunteers responded to 1,400 fire calls plus 3,310 assistance calls with Mohegan EMS - totaling 4,710 calls for the year. Our fire alarms ring multiple times each day and all throughout the night. In addition to the calls, we train and drill every year. We train our new members with hundreds of hours over the required NYS training that they receive at the Westchester County Fire Training Center to become State-Certified firefighters. We also educate the community with fire prevention demonstrations, and of course helping Santa get around the community to greet the children!! We are always looking for Volunteers so please consider joining one of the best Organizations in Westchester County. Please go to: Thanks to the generous support of the community, we have been able to continue our service to the community with both our core responsibility of fire/rescue calls. Since 1922, all of our services, training and community education activities have been done on a volunteer basis. The work that we do saves our community millions of tax dollars each year and we really do need your continued help. Please consider giving a tax-deductible donation. Our fund drive was also mailed out to our residents and we also now have the attached Venmo account! As always, thank you for your wonderful support. Sincerely, |
