On Monday morning 10/21/24, Mohegan FD visited the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Yorktown UPK through 2nd Grade classes. The kids learned fire and safety tips with a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog. The children also were shown how a firefighters gets dressed into full gear. The kids were then were shown all the equipment carried on Engine 256 and got to spray water from a fire hose.
For the parents who would like to know what we teach, some of the topics discussed which may be brought home for further discussion are:
1) Dialing 911 2) Stop Drop and Roll 3) E.D.I.T.H (Exit Drills In The Home) with a focus on having a safe spot for everyone to meet (mailbox, tree, neighbor’s house etc) in case of a fire or emergency 4) Matches/Lighters are a Tool and Not a Toy 5) Changing batteries on smoke and/or CO detectors with the clock change “Change your Clock, Change your Battery” All photos are courtesy of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and cannot be reposted unless authorized. |
