On behalf of the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Fire Prevention Team, we would like to thank all those who made our Fire Prevention Program this October a true success! Our members worked hard to teach fire prevention lessons by communicating with children and adults at numerous schools and community events. Some of the props utilized to teach included Freddie the Fire Truck, Sparky the Fire Dog, our Smoke/Safety Trailer, Firefighter Turnout Gear and Apparatus Displays, and Hose line Demonstrations.
Fire Prevention/Safety Lessons: 1) Dialing 911 2) Stop Drop and Roll 3) E.D.I.T.H (Exit Drills In The Home) with a focus on having a safe spot for everyone to meet (mailbox, tree, neighbor’s house etc) in case of a fire or emergency 4) Never play with Matches/Lighters 5) Changing batteries on smoke and/or CO detectors with the clock change “Change your Clock, Change your Battery” 6) Cooking/Kitchen Fire Safety (2023 NFPA Fire Prevention Campaign) 7) Household Safety Lessons 8) Finding a 2nd egress by escaping out a bedroom that is filling with smoke and the door is warm 9) Firefighter Turnout Gear 10) Fire Apparatus Equipment
