This week (April 9th through April 15th) is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. With this week being dedicated to the hard work of 911 dispatchers nationally, we would like to send a HUGE thank you to our dispatchers at the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services (60 Control). 60 Control is our primary dispatch center on an everyday basis and not only answers our 911 calls, dispatches our calls, and communicates over the radios to us, but they also provide life saving Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). EMD allows the dispatchers to provide vital medical care instructions to the caller over the phone to initiate first aid and CPR, which has been proven successful and life saving in the past! We also must give a shout out and BIG thank you to the other dispatchers from the Yorktown Police Department, Westchester County Police Department, and New York State Police. These agencies handle our initial 911 calls and provide communications, both over the phone or radio to make our 911 system operate to the highest standard! These dispatchers are really our “liaisons” between the inter-agencies everyday by providing the best skills as soon as a 911 call or phone call is placed! We also must thank the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services (Putnam 911) for always assisting us since our fire district does border Putnam County and we utilize inter-county mutual aid for some of our incidents and also responding mutual aid into Putnam County. They also answer 911 calls from cellular phones that are directed to cell phone towers just over the county line. Again, THANK YOU ALL!
