Medical Emergency Causes Accident

On Sunday 5/9/21 at 10:23am, Mohegan FD, Mohegan EMS/Empress EMS, and Yorktown PD were dispatched to Rt 6 in the area of Mill St in Yorktown for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, units found a one vehicle accident with the vehicle off the roadway and down an embankment. The vehicle crashed through the guardrail and fence, plus knocked over a tree stopping on the hill embankment. The injured person was transported by Mohegan EMS to a local hospital, while Mohegan FD assisted on scene. Firefighters assisted by using a K-12 circular saw to cut up the severely damaged guardrail laying in the roadway and also used a chainsaw to cut up a downed tree to allow the tow company to safely remove the vehicle. Other firefighters and fire-police members assisted with traffic control. Once the vehicle was removed from the scene, Mohegan FD units cleared the scene by 11:45am. Units on scene were Car 2261, 2266, 2269, Engine 252, Engine 256, and Rescue 32. New York State DOT was notified for the damage.
