On Tuesday 12/15/20 at approximately 11:57am, Mohegan FD (volunteer and career) were dispatched to a reported working structure fire in the area of Young St or Lent St off Oregon Rd in Cortlandt. Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services Communications Operators (60 Control) were receiving numerous calls for this fire. While units were enroute, a large header of smoke was visible and the 10-75 and 1st Alarm (Working Structure Fire) were transmitted. Upon arrival, a heavily involved structure fire was found and firefighters quickly stretched one 2 1/2" hoseline with our Blitz Attack nozzle and two 1 3/4' hoselines. With the main fire in the area of the carport knocked down, firefighters attempted to make an interior attack, but due to heavy fire being wind driven and a weakening structure, firefighters were pulled out and a defensive attack was performed. A neighboring residence was also to be found to start to catch fire from the high radiant heat. With firefighters also having to force entry to check that residence for possible additional fire spread, the 2nd alarm was transmitted bringing additional resources to the scene. The neighboring residence only suffered exterior fire damage and firefighters found no spread inside. Once the bulk of the fire in the original structure was knocked down, firefighters transitioned back to an interior attack to fully extinguish the fire and perform extensive overhaul. Overhaul was performed for numerous hours and all units cleared the scene by 4:30pm. The homeowner did suffer injuries was was transported to the Westchester Medical Center. We would like our neighboring departments for responding and assisting us during the fire.
