FAS-Team Drills On Rope Rescue   By 3rd Lieutenant Chris Gravius January 28, 2010   On Thurs night 1/28/10, Mohegan's FAS-Team gathered at Headquarters for the monthly FAS-Team drill. On this night, the topic was rope rescue and anchor points. Members first practiced tieing knots under the direction of FAS-Team coordinator Deputy Chief George Keesler. Once tieing knots was completed, members set up the lowering rack system to demonstrate lowering a firefighter to effect a rescue. The anchor point on Ladder 35 was demonstrated as one possible anchor point. Other training included using a firefighter as an anchor point. The firefighter as an anchor point would arise on the roof of a high rise building, where stationary objects are minimal. Members also practiced lowering a member using the rope and lowering rack system plus also using the harnesses. The monthly FAS-Team training/drill is held on the fourth Thurs of every month. The FAS-Team was also able to use the new equipment that has been purchased for the team for the use during possible firefighter rescue. Photos are courtesy of Lt Gravius.
