At approximately 12:10am Thursday 10/18/18, Mohegan FD was dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Forest Ave in Cortlandt. Upon arrival, units found an active fire visible from the wood chimney chase on the exterior of the residence. With fire showing, first arriving Car 2263 transmitted the 10-75 (working structure fire) and requested the first alarm assignment. One 1 3/4” hoseline was stretched from Engine 254, which also was supplied water from the closest hydrant. Ladder 35 set up its 105ft aerial, but due to the residence being set back a distance from the roadway, roof operations were limited to a 24ft extension ladder while Ladder 35 used its aerial lighting to light the roof operations. The fire was contained to the chimney chase and members opened up the wood box from the first floor up to the chimney cap above the roof line. Minor extension was found in the interior walls of the first floor up to the 2nd floor. Once the area was opened up from the exterior, the fire was quickly extinguished. Members checked the entire residence to ensure there was no additional fire spread and none was found. Due to the fire, the residence is suffer water damage. Also assisting on scene were Mohegan EMS 69B2, Croton-on-Hudson FD, Buchanan FD, Cortlandt EMS, New York State Police, and Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services. The Putnam Valley FD and Yorktown FD provided standby at Mohegan FD Headquarters during the fire for any additional calls in our district. All units cleared the scene by 2:30am.
