On Thursday 4/12/18 at approximately 1:30pm, Mohegan FD was dispatched to Lent St in Cortlandt for a reported structure fire. Within a few minutes, first arriving units found smoke showing from the residence and the first alarm was transmitted for a working structure fire. Members quickly stretched one 1 3/4" hoseline off Engine 256 to the rear basement door, while other members forced entry into the door. Ladder 35 arrived and took a position in front of the residence, and Engine 252 laid a 5" supply hoseline from the closest hydrant to supply Engine 256.Members then quickly made entry and knocked down the bulk of the fire in the garage area, just as the fire was spreading into the adjoining room. Once the fire was knocked down, members began to check for any additional fire extension and began ventilation. Due to the fire being quickly extinguished, Yorktown FD Rescue 16/FAS-Team was cancelled enroute, but Putnam Valley FD Rescue 24-6-1 continued into the scene to refill air bottles from its onboard cascade system. Mohegan EMS 69B1 transported 2 occupants of the household to NY Presbyterian-Hudson Valley Hospital for smoke inhalation, while Putnam Valley EMS provided scene standby. Also assisting on scene were Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services Battalion 17 and Cause and Origin Team. During the fire, one member did suffer a minor injury that required treatment. During the fire, Buchanan FD Engine 161 and Somers FD Tower Ladder 18 provided standby at our Headquarters for any additional calls. Pictures courtesy of FF Gus Stretz.
