Tonight Sun 3/4/18 at 11:15pm, Mohegan FD responded to a reported chimney fire on Cardinal Rd in Cortlandt. Mohegan FD has been responding to dozens of calls since the Friday winter storm and were on scene of other storm related calls when this call was dispatched. Upon arrival, members found an active chimney fire with embers visible from the exterior chimney cap. Members immediately began to remove the burning logs from the wood burning stove, while other members gained access to the roof with ground ladders to check the flue/chimney pipe. Members cleaned the stove and dropped chains down the pipe from the roof to remove any burning creosol. Other members began ventilating the smoke by using an exhaust fan and also checked the walls in the house with a thermal imaging camera to check for possible extension. No extension was found and members ensured the fire was fully extinguished. All units cleared the scene by 12:15am. Units operating were Car 2263 (IC), 2264 (Operations), 2266, 2269, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 253, Ladder 35, Rescue 32, Utility 80, and New York State Police.
