On Tues evening 12/19/17 at 6:53pm, Mohegan FD responded for a reported chimney fire on Lawrence Rd in the area of Lexington Ave in Mohegan Lake. Upon arrival, units found active fire showing from the wood chimney pipe chase above the roof at a residence on Lawrence Rd. Further investigation found the fire extended past the chimney pipe and was burning inside the wood pipe chase and also burning through the ceiling void in the living room with fire visible inside the living room. Car 2261 transmitted the 10-75 (working structure fire) for this chimney fire that had extended into the residence. With the 10-75, the first alarm assignment brought Yorktown FD's FAS-Team, Mahopac Falls FD's Rescue 19-6-1/Cascade, Mohegan VAC, and Peekskill EMS Rehab unit to the scene. One 1 3/4" hoseline was quickly stretched from Engine 257 and a close by hydrant was secured for additional water supply. Members quickly knocked down all the visible fire on the exterior and interior using this hoseline. Members gained access to the roof and used saws to open the roof area around the chimney, while other members gained access to the 2nd floor crawl space to check for further fire spread. No additional fire spread was found on the 2nd floor or inside the crawl space. Members then overhauled by opening up the roof line and cutting the chimney pipe chase open to extinguish hot spots. Mahopac Falls Firefighters assisted Mohegan Firefighters by overhauling the living room and fireplace to ensure the fire was extinguished. Mohegan EMS and Peekskill EMS set up rehab in case needed. Extensive overhaul was performed on the interior and exterior and the fire was fully extinguished. Westchester County Dept. of Emergency Services Battalion 17, Yorktown Police, and the Yorktown Fire Marshal also assisted on scene. During the fire, Peekskill FD engine 132 and Mahopac FD Tower Ladder 18-5-1 relocated and covered Mohegan FD Headquarters for any additional calls in district. All units cleared the scene by 8:30pm.
