High Winds Knock Down Tree and Wires

At 10:40am today Sun 11/19/17, Mohegan FD was dispatched to a tree down on wires on Buttonwood Rd in Cortlandt. Upon arrrival, a large tree was found down with wires down on Buttonwood Rd from strong winds during a Wind Advisory. Due to this tree down, numerous utility poles were found leaning across Crompond Rd (US Route 202/State Route 35) as well. Rt. 202 was closed between Baron De Hirsch Rd and Croton Ave/Maple Row in case the poles fell. Con Edison Electric was requested to the scene and the scene was turned over to their utility crews upon their arrival. Mohegan FD Car 2261, 2262, 2263, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 258, Rescue 32, and Utility 80 operated on scene, along with New York State Police. All Mohegan FD units cleared at approximately 12pm and Rt 202 was reopened, once the pole and guide wires were deemed safe.
