At 7:51pm on Sunday evening 6/4/17, Mohegan FD was requested to respond to the rear of The Home Depot store on East Main St (Rt. 6) for a reported forklift fire. Upon arrival, a forklift fire was found outside in the rear to be mostly extinguished by store employees using a dry chemical fire extinguisher prior to our arrival. One 1 3/4" hoseline was stretched from Engine 252 and the remainder of the smoldering fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters also removed the liquid propane tank from the forklift to prevent any additional hazards. Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps 69B2 was also requested to the scene to treat the fork lift operator who suffered a minor injury. The operator subsequently refused medical attention. Mohegan Fire units on scene were Car 2261, 2262, 2263, 22610, Engine 252, Engine 256, Utility 11 (acting Rescue 32), and 69B2. New York State Police also responded and assisted on scene. All units cleared the scene by 8:45pm.
