At approximately 1:40pm on Sunday 1/22/17, Mohegan FD was dispatched to the area of Buckhorn St and Union Rd in Shrub Oak for a reported structure fire. While units were enroute, 60 Control (Westchester County Dept of Emergency Services [DES] dispatchers) advised they were receiving multiple calls for this fire at the same time Rescue 32 advised of heavy smoke in the area. Due to these updates, Car 2264 requested the 1st alarm assignment for a confirmed working structure fire (10-75). Upon arrival of units, a residential structure fire was found with heavy smoke showing with visible fire showing on the right side of the residence. Under the command of Car 2263, two 1 3/4" hoselines, and one 2 1/2" hoseline were quickly stretched and an aggressive interior attack was performed with the use of a fire hydrant on Union Rd and a fire hydrant on Buckhorn St to supply water. Ladder 10 set up its 75ft aerial ladder and members set up numerous ground ladders around the residence. Due to deteriorating interior conditions, firefighters were pulled out and firefighters went defensive to knock down the quickly advancing fire. Once the fire was knocked down, within minutes firefighters re-entered and began interior operations to knock down the remaining fire. Extensive overhaul was performed to knock down hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished. On the 1st alarm assignment were Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps 6912, 69B2, and 6905 and Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps 7513 and 7506/Rehab unit to standby for any potential injuries and firefighter rehab.
