At approximately 8:15pm tonight 12/11/16, Mohegan FD and EMS were dispatched to Rt 6 and Conklin Ave in Cortlandt for a head-on motor vehicle accident with injuries involving a tractor trailer. Upon arrival, a head on MVA was found on Rt 6 just over our district line in the City of Peekskill. Units found 2 injuries with an active diesel fuel leak from the tractor trailer's saddle tank. Member applied speedy dry and hazmat pads to the fluids in the roadway and dammed a nearby catch basin and a plug was used to stop the active leak on the saddle tank as well. Approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway but did not enter the catch basin. Because of the spill, notifications were made t the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation. Due to the location, Peekskill Volunteer Fire Department's Fire-Police were dispatched to assist with the road closure in the snowy weather. Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps assisted Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps with transporting the injured to a local hospital. New York State Police and City of Peekskill Police Department assisted on scene. Mohegan FD units on scene were Car 2263, 2264/Utility 80, 2266, DC40, Engine 252, Engine 256, and Rescue 32. While enroute to this MVA Car 2263 came upon another MVA with injuries at Rt 6 and Locust Ave. no FD resources were needed and Mohegan EMS handled. Prior to these calls, units cleared numerous property damage auto accidents on Red Mill Rd involving up to 15 cars. NY State Police handled those incidents, while Mohegan FD assisted with the road closure until the roadway was salted/sanded by the Town of Cortlandt Highway Dept.
