On Monday morning 2/23/15 at 2:24am, Mohegan Fire units were dispatched to a Quinlan Street residence for a reported kitchen fire. Units arrived on scene and found a partially extinguished kitchen fire, that started as a grease fire on the stove. The fire quickly extended up the wall, the cabinets, and began to extend across the ceiling. There was also a moderate smoke condition throughout the residence. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire, prior to our arrival, by using a dry chemical extinguisher. This did knock down a bulk of the fire, but members did extinguish the remaining fire using a 2 1/2 gallon water can extinguisher. Members also opened up the wall and ceiling to check for further extension plus utilized a thermal imaging camera to further check for heat. Thankfully, the fire did not extend any further. Members shut off the power to the stove and ensured the smoke was ventilated. Units operating on scene were Car 2263, 2265, 22610, DC38, Engine 257, Engine 258, Ladder 10, Rescue 32, and Yorktown PD. All units cleared by 3:30am. The homeowner was alerted to this fire due to operating smoke detectors, and with the end of daylight savings time quickly approaching (few weeks) we remind all of our residents to change their smoke detector batteries and test all of their smoke detectors to ensure they are properly operating!

Units: Car 2263, 2265, 22610, DC38, Engine 257, Engine 258, Ladder 10, Rescue 32, and Yorktown PD
