With an impending severe blizzard to strike the area with up to 3 feet of snow, Mohegan FD and EMS went on standby at Fire Headquarters as of 5pm on Mon. 1/26/15. Approximately 15 members stood by through the night and responded to 2 fire calls. The first call was dispatched at 12:18am and Fire and EMS units responded to East Main St in Jefferson Valley for a possible carbon monoxide incident with symptoms. Car 2264/U80, 2265/2261 Car, 22610, Engine 258, Ladder 10, Rescue 32, 34Medic1, and Yorktown PD responded and investigated and found no carbon monoxide incident and the residents not suffering from any symptoms. All units cleared this scene by 12:45am. At 2:08am, Mohegan fire units were dispatched to Field St in Yorktown for an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival, units found the fire alarm system activated due to a small extinguished fire in a 2nd floor bedroom. The fire was caused by clothing too close to a space heater and caused the clothes to ignite and extend to the floorboards. The homeowner removed the burning clothes and space heater from the residence by throwing them out the window into the snow. Members checked the charred floor for further extension and used a thermal imaging camera which showed no fire spread. Members also ventilated the light smoke condition on the 2nd floor by opening the windows and extinguished the smoldering clothes in the yard. Units cleared this scene by 3am. Mohegan EMS responded to a few ems calls also during the standby. Car 2263, 2264/U80, 2265/2261 Car, 22610, Engine 254, Engine 258, Ladder 35, and Rescue 32 operated on this scene. As of tis writing, the snow is slowly stopping with no more than a few inches of snow, and no blizzard conditions.
