On Sat. night 11/15/14 at 9:24pm Mohegan Fire units were dispatched to Lawrence Rd in Mohegan Lake for reported fire from a roof of a residence. Upon arrival, members found the homeowner on the roof with a garden hose extinguishing, what the homeowner advised was a chimney fire. Members advised the homeowner to come down and while investigating further with size-up, members immediately found fire showing from the wood frame chimney chase and fire showing from the eaves in the rear of the house. Car 2265 advised incoming units of a working fire and advised Engine 252 to stretch an 1 3/4" hoseline. Under of 2262, who arrived moments after the update and transmitted the 1st alarm, members quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire using the hoseline from the rear of the residence. Engine 252 also secured a supply hose to a close by hydrant. Firefighters also gained access to the roof with ground ladders and utilized saws to open up the roof and further extinguish the fire. Interior crews also extinguished the fire in the fireplace and also opened up the attic and bedroom walls and ceiling in the interior to check for further fire extension. Yorktown FD Rescue 16/FAS-Team, Mahopac Falls FD Rescue 19-6-1/Cascade, Mohegan EMS, Peekskill EMS Rehab unit, Con Edison Electric, and Yorktown Police assisted on the scene. Peekskill FD Engine 132 and Montrose FD Tower Ladder 8 covered Mohegan FD Headquarters until Mohegan units became available from the fire scene. All units cleared the scene by 11pm. Mohegan units on scene were 2262, 2264, 2265, 2267, 22610, 22640, Engine 252, Engine 253, and Ladder 35. The homeowner did prevent considerable damage by holding the fire from spreading further, but the Mohegan FD wants to remind everybody to immediately call 911 to report any fires and stay in a safe location!
